About Newton Press

Sixty-three years of getting print right.

Newton Press is a family-run general printing business founded by Syd Howarth in 1963 — professional solutions to any print enquiry was the foundation of our business, and continues to be our ethos today.

Our print services span small-format (leaflets, booklets, NCR pads, diaries) to large-format (aluminium and foam boards, posters, plan printing) to labels (vinyl, paper and much more) to promotional goods (notebooks, pens, bottles, mugs) — with decades of experience, no job is impossible.

1963 to present

Timeline of Newton Press

1963

Newton Press begins

Born out of the back room of a bakers in 1963, repairing books, bibles and ledgers. This is the humble beginning of a three-generation family business.

1970s

Expansion into Greenwell Road

Having taken a foothold in the local community, and needing bigger premises for better machines, we moved out of the bakery and into Greenwell Road. We became traditional printers and took over the Newtonian, expanding our traditional letterpress printing — which we still offer to this day.

1980s

Moving to the Aycliffe Angels

Soon after, Newton Press expanded into one of the historic Aycliffe Angels WW2 munitions factories. Here The Press remained for decades, servicing local business and growing into an integral part of the community.

1990s

The Newtonian becomes Newton News

The rebrand of the Newtonian to Newton News followed a change in direction for the paper — more of a herald for local events, community action and all things Newton Aycliffe. The rebrand came with a move to colour print and a more newspaper-style layout.

2015

Newton Press moves on up

Aside from the free local newspaper, Newton Press had been hard at work growing into a key player in the local economy. This led to a new home at the Blue Bridge Centre in 2015, following significant growth in the supply of printed goods to companies domestically and internationally. Despite the increase in size, service and quality come above everything else.

2020

Covid-19

As an essential service during Covid-19, Newton Press stayed open, providing essential print services to hospitals, care homes and other essential businesses.

Today
